Rachael Kasie Designs was birthed out of an existing "family" business owned by my mother, Drema. Growing up, while I didn't pay much attention to it because I was so young, my mother always had a hand in the wedding industry or flowers. From operating her own coordinating company that led to me modeling "flower girl" dresses in bridal shows she participated in. To seeing her transition to a long term job with a company named Silk, Silk, Silk where her love for flower design started. Eventually, she moved into management of the Floral Department at Michael's Arts & Crafts and then finally to purchasing/owning and operating what would end up being 3 local Florists combined into one main company called Daytona Beach Florist.
That's where my start came, working my way through the rest of my senior year of high school in 2002, I went into the "family business". I started out as an Administrative Assistant to my mother only to get roped in on a busy Valentine's Day holiday to help design "dozen rose arrangements". To my surprise I had a natural talent and immediate love for it where as prior to being pushed into the design room I wanted nothing to do with it! I spent the next 4 years working for my mom and training under her head designer. Now although I enjoyed designing with beautiful flowers all day it wasn't "my plan" as a long term career.. At the same time I worked for my mom after high school I went to Cosmetology School only to realize I only loved certain aspects of the hair business but not all.. Fast forward a couple years I fell into a passion for the fashion industry, I enrolled at the International Academy of Design & Technology in Orlando where I studied for about 3-4 months before eventually transferring to the Art Institute in Miami for a better curriculum. So you can see I have always gravitated towards the world of art and design. I mean as far back as I can remember, I was always re-arranging my room growing up as a way to redecorate it and make it fresh because I always needed to see something different. I would get bored with the old so it's only fitting this is where life has led me.
You see, this born and raised Florida girl wanted "more" city than just what Daytona Beach had to offer. So my goal was to become a fashion magazine editor which would eventually relocate me to a big city, therefore I was starting in Miami.. So I enrolled in the Art Institute and spent the next 2 1/2 months in Miami going to school and well.. that was short lived! Turns out I liked Miami for vacation only and not permanent residency. I did not enjoy the major city life like I thought I would living in a high rise apartment in the heart of Miami. Daytona immediately became all the city I wanted. However, prior to my moving to Miami I had sourced a job before making the move and was hired on with one of the top wedding floral design companies, Parrish Designs. The irony to me here is... I was in Miami to completely get away from the flower life and what did I do when I got down there.. got a job in the wedding floral industry. Funny how we make plans and God laughs and says, here are "my" plans. Unfortunately but fortunately I never got the chance to begin my job with Parrish because I moved back to Daytona 2 1/2 months after relocating to Miami. I am sure you are asking why I would up and leave everything again, completely break my apartment lease and go back to where I just left? Well, that's finally where Rachael Kasie Designs comes to fruition!
I was on the phone with my mom one day and she tells me she's ready to retire the business. She experienced some significant set backs after being forced to move out of her flagship building and into a new one because the landlord sold the building her business was in. Unfortunately, the difficulties related to the move caused a significant blow to the company and it was at that time my parents opted to not put the effort required to pull this business back up to where it was. Only problem though was her contractual obligations to her Brides, she was committed. It was a transitional conversation in my life where the decision I was about to make would set the path for my future. In that moment I realized I wanted to do that business myself, I wanted to assume responsibilities of those weddings and I wanted to build that business back up into something special. So I packed up my apartment, moved back home and in with my parents, took over their business and changed the name to Rachael Kasie Designs. Rachael because it of course is my name and Kasie because that is the name of my sister in law, best friend and would be business partner. That's right, Rachael Kasie is two different people! In 2007, at my young age of 23, Kasie and I partnered up and started this business together without either of us having any real "business" experience. We fought through many challenges together, weathered difficult seasons and while transitions in Kasie's life caused her to need to step back from ownership of our company, Kasie still plays a major roll in the operation and we are blessed to now be more than 12 years old as a company.
So to sum this all up, Rachael Kasie Designs was born out of the love for family and my love for design. It's the best resource to express my creativity and use the gifts God gave me. Who get's to do what they truly love for the rest of their life and make money at, it's amazing! So it's obvious now as an adult exactly the path the Lord had set before me, it was a matter of me finding my way to His way and embracing it. I attribute the increasing growth and continued success of Rachael Kasie Designs solely to the overflow of favor and blessings God has placed on it. I look forward to seeing where we grow as a company in the coming years!
